Dr. Mauricio Dorfman, PhD, is first author and Dr. Joshua Thaler, MD, PhD is senior author on the article entitled “Sex differences in microglial CX3CR1 signaling determine obesity susceptibility in mice”, in press at Nature Communications. The article reports the the first direct evidence that microglia can modulate energy homeostasis and obesity susceptibility over the long term in a sex-specific manner. The findings also identify CX3CR1 as a novel nonneuronal CNS target for obesity therapeutics. Other UW Diabetes Institute investigators co-authoring the paper include Gregory Morton, PhD.
