UW Medicine at South Lake Union Phase II was recognized with an AIA Washington Council 2009 Civic Design Award.  The Annual AIA|WA Civic Design Awards were held May 14, 2009.  Eight projects were honored at the event. Three were given the Citation Award, three received the Merit Award, and two received the Honor Award.  UW Medicine at South Lake Union was one of the two Honor Award recipients.  The Diabetes & Obesity Center of Excellence is located within the UW Medicine at South Lake Union Phase II complex.

According to the AIA Washington Council Website, “All of the buildings were praised for their transparency which allowed for a connection to the environment and vibrant natural light; the jury further commended the designs for their seamless integration of community purpose with beautiful architecture.”
