Dr. Karin Bornfeldt, Professor (Metabolism, Endocrinology and Nutrition), Joint Professor (Pathology), has received an Outstanding Investigator Award from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute for her R35 project “Identifying new strategies for prevention of cardiovascular complications of diabetes”, with $1,037,755 in funding received for year 1. This award will support Dr. Bornfeldt’s NHLBI research program for 7 years, with cumulative funding of more than $7.2 million over the award’s duration. The Outstanding Investigator Awards are intended for investigators who have an outstanding record of research with contributions to NHLBI’s research objectives. Co-investigators are Dr. Jay Heinecke, Professor, Dr. Baohai Shao, Research Associate Professor and Dr. Jenny Kanter, Research Assistant Professor (all from Metabolism, Endocrinology and Nutrition).
