UW Medicine Diabetes Institute Clinic
The UWMDI is based on a bench-to-bedside approach — taking discoveries made at the laboratory bench and turning them into medications and therapies for patients. This means we aim to: Clarify the mechanistic underpinnings of diabetes and its complications; Translate this information into new targets for diabetes treatment and prevention; Provide superb, multidisciplinary care for complex, multifaceted problems; Optimize diabetes care from adolescence to geriatrics; and Expand our outreach to improve the lives of patients with diabetes in the Northwest and beyond.
Our Providers
The UW Diabetes Institute Clinic, part of UW Medicine, supports patients with a comprehensive treatment plan and care team. Our clinician-teachers are at the forefront of care, research and teaching. They care for patients, and they also educate students and fellows within UW Medicine, as well as primary-care providers throughout the Pacific Northwest. Our certified diabetes education nurses expertly provide the entire spectrum of diabetes support from basic training to assistance with the most complex diabetes treatment technology. Registered dietitians offer individualized nutritional counseling and our clinical pharmacists are specialists in the use of diabetes medications. As an accredited American Diabetes Association program, the clinic offers comprehensive classes in diabetes management. Diabetes support groups are available for established patients.
