UWMDI Investigator Vincenzo Cirulli, MD, PhD, named new Director of the Diabetes Research Connection, a non-profit foundation that is dedicated to fund junior investigators dedicating their career to research on type 1 diabetes (DRC:  https://diabetesresearchconnection.org/about-us/). Since its inception in 2012, the DRC has had a tremendous impact in catalyzing the career growth of numerous young scientists, from postdoctoral fellows to junior faculty, who eventually went on to secure significant extramural support (NIH, ADA, JDRF) that fostered their establishment as independent investigators.

In this new role as Scientific Director, Dr. Cirulli will work closely with the more than 80 members of the DRC Scientific Review Committee (https://diabetesresearchconnection.org/about-us/scientific-review-committee-2/), and with members of the DRC Board of Directors, to bring the foundation to new heights, with a plans to fund up to 44 projects by the end of 2021.
