Vincenzo Cirulli, MD, PhD, has been awarded a $500,000 grant by the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) to identify small molecules and/or drugs that can elicit human islet cell replication, hopefully contributing to strategies for regeneration in type 1 diabetes. Significant collaborators include UWMDI Investigator Laura Crisa, who will contribute her expertise in islet cell transplantation, and ISCRM faculty member Tim Martins, Director of the Quellos High-Throughput Screening Core, who will assist with the drug screening effort.
